"I Would Like to Be a Leica"
"I Would Like to Be a Leica" is a video series by Boris Dörning. Boris is a filmmaker and motion designer, but he also has a great passion for photography. In 2021, he asked me if I wanted to be part of his video series "I Would Like to Be a Leica" and if he could accompany me with his camera on one of my photo tours through Cologne. I immediately liked the concept of spending a day with different photographers, capturing short video portraits of their work. So, on a cold, gray Sunday in Cologne-Müngersdorf, we met up. Beforehand, I had planned a route that would take us through Müngersdorf, Vogelsang, Braunsfeld, and Ehrenfeld. It's not an everyday occurrence for me to be filmed, so naturally, I was a bit tense at first. However, that tension disappeared within minutes because I quickly realized how professional Boris's work is. At all times, it felt like he had everything under control and a clear vision in mind. When necessary, he gave me clear instructions, but most of the time, he worked so discreetly and unobtrusively that I could move naturally and never had to pretend. We explored deserted industrial areas in the snow and rain, hidden nature reserves, suburban neighborhoods, newly constructed residential areas, and even trendy hotspots at the end. After walking over 12 kilometers, we ended up in hip Ehrenfeld, feeling frozen but satisfied. We relaxed with a few beers while recording the interview and reflecting on the day. It was a perfect ending to an exciting day and a very valuable experience.
A big thank you for the invitation, the highly professional work, and the excellent result, Boris! It was an honor for me!
